I’ve been working on several Kufi designs lately and I’m never sure which is better: a horisontal or slanted-to-the-left Fatha. Another question that comes to mind: what is the right relationship of weight between the main stroke width and that of the vocalization marks?
If we were discussing Naskh, or other rounded styles, the matter is easily resolved by reference to calligraphic practice. However, Kufi styles have evolved into geometric styles and their usage is more in display settings where vocalization is not needed.
In my mind, a Fatha is always titled. But at which angle? Also, some Kufi typefaces have horisontal ones. Which is better?
(the following are not my designs!)
