My Lebanese friends and I sometimes talk about our favorite cartoons when growing up. Who wouldn’t want to have endless hours of watching cartoons? I searched online and it seems that in the past year all sorts of videos have been posted on youtube. You’ll notice no Disney movies here, since those came to Lebanon at a later date. Most of the cartoons that I saw until the age of 8 or 9 were Japanese ones. As for the other Arab countries, well, I can’t really tell though I read that Grandizer was popular all across the Arab world. Anyway, below is a list of my favorite cartoons while growing up. These are the opening sequences and have songs that we used to know by heart. Please note the typography…
- Grandizer: by far créme de la créme… I was addicted to this. Grandizer is a UFO and along with the hero, Deisky, he fights the evil aliens who distroyed his planet and now want to take over ours. There’s a café in Lebanon that is showing it again!

- Sasuki: This was super cool!! Sasuki is a little kid who is really good in karate and fights evil people.

- Bell et Sebastian: I love the little dog Pouchi. This one is a bit sad because Sebastian lost his mother and is touring the mountains looking for her. This is like Bambi all over again.

- Jongar: He’s also a UFO. I don’t remember much of the plot but I remember that my sister liked it a lot.

- Zeina wa Hahoul: Very cute. It’s a story about a bee called Zeina and her friend Nahoul. I remember that there was a grasshopper in the plot as well.
