Very exciting news!! First of all, you’ve all heard of the Helvetica movie, right? If not, a very few words: The movie is directed by Gary Hustwit and it is about Helvetica. Yes, the typeface. A feature length movie about the most popular typeface of our times. Cool, no? The movie itself is a wonderful piece. You’d think spending 2 hours listening to people talk about a typeface is not something you’d do in a movie theater but believe it or not, the time flies, and you have a great time.

I’ve seen it twice already, at the Linotype special screening and in Thessaloniki for the ICTVC last June. It’s been screened everywhere and is absolutely a must-see, even if you are no fan of Helvetica. The movie interviews a host of type design stars and really gives you a peek into the passion that a single design can inspire, and the impact of letter forms on every day culture. Oh, and it’s out this year to coincide with Helvetica’s 50th birthday.

Also, I’m going to be on the DVD!!! The filming at Linotype happened on the day Hermann Zapf and I were working together and so there’s a small scene where I appear. It’s not in the main movie but will be included in the extras on the DVD. Gary (Thank you!!!) gave me permission to post the link here so I hope you enjoy the interview with HZ:

The DVD will be out soon so I’ll post some info here once that is done.
