It’s the sign of the time (or how crazy my schedule is) that the new book that I’m writing with my friend and colleague Tarek Atrissi was announced at TDC in NY on March 15, then twitter, then in Dubai on March 19, and 2 months later here on my blog. I’m finishing my PhD soon so I hope I’ll be posting more often once the writing is done!
So, back to the news: Yes I’m writing a book titled Right to Left: Typographic Dialogues on Arabic Visual Culture! Tarek and I have been working on it for several years now and we expect it to be ready by the end of the year. The book is written for everyone interested in Arabic typography and it branches over many different topics within that field.
But this book is only 1 of many things that we hope to build together. Tarek and I are forming a publishing platform together called Hamra House and it is dedicated to Arabic design and typography. Why Hamra? It’s the area in Beirut where we both grew up, and it is also the melting pot of so many different cultures that one finds in the region. It is a truly inspiring place, and one that we both hold very dear.
So, if you are interested in these news, follow @HamraHouse on twitter!
